We present our first collection of leather bags, The Evolution Collective. Its conception has been a personal response to the urban social environment as I have experienced. Leather as a material is something I had never worked with but always fantasized. So either from whim or fancy my affair with leather began and through my explorations, I fell more and more in love with the beauty of what it is and what it could be.
Our designs have been based on the physical nature of the material and its evolution over time with use. It is a reflection of the true nature of the material used for the creation and should also be given equal importance along with the form and the nature of the design. The object should reflect the properties of the material and celebrate it, tell a story about the user rather than just imitate or impersonate something that it is not.
Objects through their physical and functional nature have embodied the capacity to be metaphors of our aspirations and reflections of the social context that we live in through the use of objects, the value we assign to them, and the environment in which we use them.
Our experiments are a reaction to our lost relationship with objects beyond their immediate value an outcome of fast fashion where objects circulate at such a pace that only their functional value is all that interests us. The range of our designs is an evolution, an experiment based on the idea of visual excitement with the simplicity of construction. These designs have been developed keeping in mind its urban utility and manifest our philosophy of organic evolution and change. Through our form, functionality and the material, we intend to develop designs that can be a part of the user’s lives, designs they can mend and in the mends tell a story.
